I've always had a hard time writing about myself becaus I've never really considered myself as an interesting person. I'm just me. My daughter recently described me as driven, so I will use that as a lead in for my first assignment, which is to share my background, education, experiences, interests, and anything else I would like to share.
Although born in Illinois I was raised and consider myself from Attala County, Mississippi where I went to high school. I did not choose the direct route to college, but eventually I did find myself furthering my education, and have applied for admittance into the Instructional Technology PhD program. I won't celebrate until I am accepted, but if that day comes it will make me extremely happy.
My professional bio reads:
April recently celebrated her 11 year anniversary working at USM and is currently employed as an Operations Manager in iTech, the university’s technology department. In this role she is primarily responsible for managing major software implementation and upgrade projects, such as those for SOAR and SOARFIN. She also chairs the PeopleSoft Standards Committee whose members are charged with assessing and evaluating data standards as it relates to the PeopleSoft software initiative.
In addition to working for iTech she shares the responsibilities of restaurant ownership with her husband, Ric, and enjoys spending time with her three daughters, three grandchildren and many pets.
April has actively participated in many prestigious clubs and organizations to include Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Institute for Technology Professionals, Project Management Institute, International Society for Performance Improvement, the American Society for Training and Development and is currently serving her 2nd three-year term on the Staff council at USM.
She has been an invited speaker at the American Society for Training and Development’s Jackson and Gulfport chapter meetings and conducted a training session for the regional meeting of NALS, the Association for Legal Professionals. She has also the pleasure of being an adjunct professor for two semesters at USM teaching UNV101 that provides guidance to freshmen students adapt to life at a university.
In her spare time, she enjoys a diverse range of activities that include spending time with her family and friends, reading, horseback riding, motorcycling, camping, going to the beach, and learning new technologies. She affectionately refers to it as keeping up with the gadgets.
Some would agree with my daughter based on what you have just read that I'm driven, but like I said earlier, I'm just me.
